Shrek the Musical

26th - 30th May 2020

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change) and a sidesplitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…" And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek.

Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after all), and more! Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

Children's Audition Details

With the adult audition process for Shrek underway, CODS are pleased to announce the long awaited audition date for children!

Please note that we are only looking to cast only TWO female roles and strong singers/actors are required for each. All details about the roles and auditions can be found below:

Teen Fiona (must look 14 -18 years)

Part-dreamer, part-cynic, this teenager is getting tired of waiting for her prince but convinced he will appear to save her soon. Excellent singing voice and acting presence required. This role may be shared between two performers. *** The casting of both characters will be influenced by whoever is appointed to play adult Fiona at our main auditions earlier in the week. Although Fiona will wear a wig, please note that this might have some baring on the height or look required. *** Vocal range: A3 – B4

Young Fiona (also Young Shrek/Dwarf) (must look age 8-12) Height: 4’10 – 5’1

This role requires a young actress with a powerful singing voice who can portray Fiona’s courage, energy, optimism and hope as she clings to the belief that her hero will recue her very soon. This role will be shared. Please do not audition if you have an allergy to face paint/make-up. The children cast to share this role will also be doubling as Young Shrek for some of the performances. Vocal range: B3 – C5

The audition will be a group workshop starting promptly at 7pm. There is no need to prepare any material but you may like to listen in advance to the song ‘I Know It’s Today’ from the musical soundtrack. After the first stage of the workshop, we will decide who we would like to see more from. At this point, some children/auditionees will be asked to stay and others can leave with their parents. It is essential that parents of under 16s come in at the start to sign in and check what time they will be required for pick up. Please bring a bottle of water.

Audition Day: Thursday 12th December

7pm, Christ Church Hall, Malvern Road, Cheltenham

Please email our Production Secretary with your name, age, height, date of birth (and, if under 16, your parent’s name and phone number) to register for an audition place.

Rehearsals will be on Mondays/Thursdays and some Sundays between January and May.

Show dates: Tuesday 26th - Saturday 30th May 2020
