Musical Revue - Autumn 2020
Production Team Applications
For those who are unaware, the CODS Committee have decided to mix up our schedule with an exciting musical revue at our beloved Playhouse in October 2020. It was not so long ago that these events were commonplace in the society’s calendar, so we thought after the exertions of the epic ‘Shrek’, this would open up new opportunities for both our members and audiences alike.
To make this project a success, we are going to need a high quality production team. One with imagination galore and ideas a plenty to create a masterpiece of entertainment. Therefore, we are opening up applications for Directors, Choreographers and Musical Directors in the hope we can select a team this side of Christmas.
Unlike our musicals process, we are encouraging (but not stipulating) team submissions. With the flexibility available, it is important that the eventual team are fully aligned and in agreement over the proposed vision. There are no scripts or strict internal guidelines to adhere to so the boundaries are as wide as the imagination will allow. However, before you disappear into a world of planning for the hire of The Royal Albert Hall, please understand this is a CODS production, which comes with a couple of unavoidable financial and licence restrictions. For example, we as a Committee are very much under the impression that this venture should come with a monetary risk that is far less than our musical productions. Without being coy on the matter, this was certainly a contributing factor in the original decision to head down the route of a revue. CODS will also be hiring the theatre for a single week, so any proposal needs to make sure the number of performances consider the associated technical setup time.
Whilst not fully confirmed yet, we have penciled in Sunday 04th October until Sunday 11th October 2020 as the hiring week at the Playhouse. The applications themselves can be provided in written form or video message, but please keep either high level, i.e. provide us the necessary detail without diving in too deep; as a general guide think 1000 words or 3-5 mins. We will likely hold an interview process to select the eventual team to take us forward. All applications should be sent to our CODS Secretary by November 30th 2019.
If you have any questions regarding any of the above, please contact our Vice Chair, Keir Kille.

Based in 1980s Camden Town, the Our House tells the story of London lad Joe Casey, who, on the night of his sixteenth birthday, takes Sarah, the girl of his dreams, out on their first date. In an effort to impress her with bravado, he breaks into a building site overlooking his home on Casey Street, which is owned by Mister Pressman, a high-end property developer. The police turn up, at which point Joe’s life splits into two: the Good Joe, who stays to help, and Bad Joe, who flees.
Featuring a collection of Madness hits including House of Fun, Baggy Trousers, Driving in my Car, It Must Be Love and of course Our House.

Quack, waddle and strut your way to the Playhouse Theatre and join CODS for their brand new Youth Theatre company’s debut production of ‘Honk! Jr’. Opening on a farmyard full to bursting with quirky characters, follow Ugly on his journey from being the duckling with no friends, to the beautiful swan we all know and love from Hans Christian Anderson's beloved children’s tale. ‘Honk! Jr’ the musical will charm and delight Gloucestershire families with a menagerie of singing ducks, sly cats and flipper-wearing froglets. All brought together with a fun and frolicking musical score from Stiles and Drewe, the British composing duo behind ‘Betty Blue Eyes’, ‘Wind in the Willows’ the musical, and the stage adaptation of ‘Mary Poppins’.
